  2. Advancement of knowledge
 
 

 
    Approximately 4000 scholarships at various levels of education have been granted to date.

  Established Research Grants for various disciplines in Science.

  Assisted authors and publications

  Made several grants for Construction & Maintenance of School buildings, libraries, hostels and homes for rehabilitation of displaced children


 
   
 
  Established in 1996 the Deshamanya Mohamed Sahabdeen Institute, Pahamune in the Kurunagala District to give higher education including University Education to needy children.

  A hostel for girls was constructed at Madeena National School in Siyambalagaskotuwa in the Kurunagala District in 1996

  A school hall was constructed at Koyawadi Muslim School im Noracholai in the Puttalam District where refugee children from the ethnic conflict areas were provided with education.
 
 


3.   Social Development

Grants to under mentioned institutions in Sri Lanka were made from the inception of the Foundation to date.

4. International Awards
 

The following Scholars & Researchers who have made original & outstanding contributions to Human Development were given International Awards during 1993 to date .

 
Dr. Christopher Gregory Weeramantry

Former vice president of the International Court of Justice , Hague , Netherlands received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for International Understanding.He later won UNESCO prize for peace Education in 2006.

   
Dr. Gamini Corea

Former Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) (1974-1984) and Former Chancellor, Open University of Sri Lanka received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for International Understanding. (1994)
   

Professor Muhammad Yunus

Reputed Economist, Banker, Social Reformer and Author received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Socio Economic Science. (1994) He was later awarded the Nobel  prize for peace in 2006.

   
Dr. Arthur Charles Clarke, CBE,

Renowned author of Science and Science fiction and Science fact; inventor of the communications satellite, promoter of world peace and futurist received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Science. (1996)
   
Professor Nalin Chandra Wickramasinghe

Eminent Astrophysicist, Mathematician and Writer received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Science (1996)
   
Professor Chintamani Nagesa Ramachandra Rao

President of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research Bangalore, India and Albert Einstein Research Professor received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Science (1996)

   

Late Professor Allama Mahmood Mohamed Uwise

Former Professor of Islamic Tamil Literature Madurai Kamaraj University received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Literature (1997)

   

Dr. Martin Lings

Internationally famous Scholar and writer received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Literature (1997). Died 2005

   

Professor Jayantha Vishnu Narlikar

Emeritus Professor, Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astro Physics, Eminent scientist, Researcher and Writer, received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Science (2005)

   

 Dr.Jayantha Dhanapala

Former under Secretary General of Disarmament Affairs in the United Nations, Diplomat and presently Head of the Peace Secretariat in Sri Lank, reveived the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Peace and International Understanding (2005). He was a nominee of the Sri Lankan Government for the post Secretary General United Nations  in 2006 but withdrew  later.  

   

Dr.Godfrey Gunatilleke

Chairman Emeritus and Fellow of the Marga institute, Former member of the Ceylon Civil Servce, Writer and Researcher received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for Socio - Economic Studies (2005)

   

Dr.Kumari Jayawardena

Senior Fellow of the Institute of Graduate Studies, Secretary of the Social Scientists Association, Researcher, University Teacher and Writer, received the Mohamed Sahabdeen Award for
